Rodney Horton Dr. Horton is the owner and President of MedOp Inc., a medical supply and contract manufacturing company. He is responsible for the research, development and manufacturing of MAXIVISION® and MAXIFLEX® products which are based on recently published studies in peer reviewed medical journals. They represent a breakthrough in nutraceutical understanding regarding macular degeneration, joint abnormalities and prevention of chronic diseases. Dr. Horton is actively involved in analyzing new research and applying the information to manufacture state-of-the-art, cutting edge products. He also is a founding director and presently serves on the Board of Directors at First Citrus Bank in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Horton is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Indiana State University where he received his undergraduate (B.S.) and his graduate (M.S.) degrees in Physics. He was accepted as an Aeronautical Engineer with the National Space and Aeronautics Administration (NASA) with an assignment in the Space Laboratory Station, a project that never reached fruition due to funding cuts. He was appointed and served as an Instructor of Physics at Indiana State University before moving to Florida to teach high school physics and coach basketball. He also worked as a Technical Engineer for Motorola before returning to professional school. He attended the UABSO, the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry, at the Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama where he received his post-graduate doctoral degree. Upon graduation from the UABSO, Dr. Horton received several honors including induction into Beta Sigma Kappa Honorary Society, the Harold B. Kohn Memorial Award for the best original research paper, and the prestigious Outstanding Clinician Award appointed by the faculty doctors. Following graduation he started at St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute where he practiced for over 15 years with James P. Gills, M.D., a world renowned ophthalmologist. Upon leaving St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute, he co-founded The Eye Institute in New Port Richey, Florida. His practice focuses on geriatric care while providing comprehensive eye care for the entire family; specializing in the treatment of eye diseases including glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, dry eye, diabetic eye complications, conjunctivitis and emergency eye care. Dr. Horton serves his profession as an adjunct faculty member to several schools including the UABSO at The Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He has also published articles on pathological eye conditions in the medical journals and lectured at numerous professional continuing educational meetings and seminars. He is a member of the American Public Health Association [APHA], the American Optometric Association [AOA], the Florida Optometric Association [FOA] and the Central Suncoast Optometric Society [CSOS]. He has been actively involved in the state association having served on several statewide committees. He is also Past President of the Central Suncoast Optometric Society, his local FOA chapter. He was nominated and selected as an Honored Member in the National Directory of Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals for 1995. Dr. Horton was also nominated and selected as Alumnus of the Year 2004 from the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry, at the Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. MedOp Inc.
